About Matthew

Matthew is a Primary Therapist at SOBA New Jersey. Having received his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Stockton University, he then went on to pursue his master\’s degree in School Counseling and LPC at Kean University which he just completed first year at Kean University. Matthew got his Certified Drug and Alcohol Counseling Certifications in 2014.

Matthew has a history of working in the substance abuse and addictions field, as well as co-occurring disorders. He started his career at New Hope Detox as a tech, where he would do intakes and lead groups in addiction and mental health. After Matthew got his CADC he was a counselor at the Mattie House which was a sober living facility. Matthew has also had experience working with mental health during his time working as a therapist at The Gateway Foundation. After this, he went to Sunrise Detox in Stirling New Jersey as a primary therapist where he works in a field he is most passionate about, addictions and recovery. He transferred to the Toms River Sunrise detox a year later and then moved to The Counseling Center partial program where he worked till 2023.

Matthew practices Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approaches, Motivational interviewing techniques (MI). Matthew is passionate about helping and supporting people work on themselves and helping them better themselves and become their most authentic self.
In his free time, Matthew enjoys spending time with his wife and family. Matthew likes to surf which he has done since he was 10 years old.
