Drug & Alcohol Addiction Treatment Using AmeriHealth Insurance

In New Jersey, roughly half a million people have substance problems that seriously diminish their well-being and daily function. Many of those affected enter a treatment program. However, tens of thousands do not. One major factor in determining if you seek treatment is your ability to pay for it. If you have health insurance, this task typically becomes easier. That’s true because a high percentage of today’s health insurance policies include coverage for rehab services. New Jersey residents can choose from a variety of insurance providers, including AmeriHealth.

Types of AmeriHealth Plans

How Does AmeriHealth Health Insurance Work?

AmeriHealth features several different types of health insurance plans. For instance, your plan may be set up as a health maintenance organization (HMO). An AmeriHealth HMO allows you to pay a fairly modest monthly premium. In exchange for this reduced recurring cost, you must:

  • Designate a specific doctor as your primary care physician (PCP)
  • Seek referrals from your PCP before you see a specialist
  • Stay within the provider network when seeking treatment unless you experience an emergency

Your AmeriHealth plan may also function as an exclusive provider organization (EPO). An EPO shares some of the characteristics of a health maintenance organization. But in other ways, it resembles another kind of plan called a preferred provider organization (PPO). Like an HMO, an EPO requires you to seek treatment from in-network providers. However, it does not require you to designate a primary care physician or seek referrals for specialists.

Your EPO plan at AmeriHealth may include a health savings account (HSA). This is a non-taxable account you can use to save up money for healthcare you may need in the future. In addition, you may qualify for what’s known as catastrophic health insurance. Insurance of this type helps you meet the high cost of treatment for severe health issues.
