Personalized, Whole-Person Addiction Treatment
At SOBA New Jersey, we believe that each person has a unique relationship with addiction and mental health. That's why our New Brunswick rehab team takes a personalized approach to treatment, tailoring every care plan to the individual's history, needs, and goals.
Addiction does not exist in a vacuum. Clients often arrive with underlying mental health struggles, such as trauma exposure, depression issues, or extensive emotional pain that they have self-medicated through drug or alcohol use. Our integrated model ensures that both the addiction and any underlying mental health factors are addressed simultaneously, under one roof, with coordinated, consistent support.
By providing a combination of medical treatment, evidence-based therapy, and true connection, we assist clients in stabilizing, rebuilding, and being able to move forward with purpose, clarity, and resilience.
We Work With Most Major Insurance Plans
At SOBA New Jersey, we do everything in our power to ensure that the cost of treatment does not interfere with an individual's ability to access the care they need. We will quickly obtain insurance verification on your behalf and provide you with information about the cost of addiction treatment, so you have the time and energy to focus on your recovery.
Trusted, Licensed, and Accredited Treatment
Choosing an addiction treatment facility is one of the most important decisions you will make in your lifetime. Therefore, it is essential to verify that the facility you choose has met licensure and accreditation standards. Licensure and accreditation are your assurance that a facility meets rigorous standards for safety, clinical quality, and ethical care. SOBA New Jersey is a licensed and accredited treatment provider, reflecting our unwavering commitment to delivering the highest standard of addiction recovery services to clients in New Brunswick and throughout Middlesex County.

A Full Continuum of Care — From Detox to Sober Living
The recovery process is ongoing. At SOBA New Jersey, we will provide you with every possible support so you can successfully reach your recovery goals by offering all the programs you will need throughout your recovery journey.
Medical Detox
Detoxification is often the first step to recovery for people being treated for alcohol, opioid, or other substance use. The detoxification process can include withdrawal symptoms and medical complications; therefore, it is recommended that detoxification be completed under direct medical supervision. Our medical detoxification program provides 24/7 monitoring and medically monitored withdrawal (if applicable) to assist people in clearing these substances from their systems and getting started on the next step of their recovery journey.
Residential Treatment
Residential treatment provides patients with an environment to separate themselves from using substances while focusing solely on their recovery. Residential treatment provides a therapeutic environment to support recovery through individual and group therapy, learning skills to support recovery, and establishing long-lasting relationships within the recovery community.
Partial Hospitalization Program
The PHP provides patients with structured therapeutic programming during the day and allows patients to return home in the evening to family or sober living houses. PHP serves as a step-down treatment option for those transitioning from residential treatment, as well as people that require significant therapeutic support, but do not need 24/7 residential treatment for alcohol and drug use disorders.
Intensive Outpatient Program
IOP provides flexible, high-quality care that accommodates the client's schedule (work, school, family, etc.). Clients will come to several sessions per week, continue to do therapeutic work, and be able to apply what they learn in treatment to their daily lives. We consider the IOP to be a vital part of the step-down continuum of care offered through SOBA NJ.
Outpatient Program (OP)
Our standard outpatient program is for clients who have progressed through higher levels of care (or whose needs can be met in an outpatient setting), and it provides continued clinical support so clients may maintain accountability, community, and momentum as they navigate their lives in recovery.
Sober Living
Recovery does not end upon completion of our program. For those requiring additional support following treatment, our sober living options offer clients a structured, substance-free living environment to practice the skills learned in treatment while continuing to develop their independence and build a support network that is positive and supports their recovery.
Evidence-Based Therapies Tailored to Your Recovery
The process of recovering from addiction involves more than just refraining from using. It involves identifying the root causes of your addiction, developing new coping skills, and rebuilding your relationship with yourself and your loved ones. At SOBA New Jersey's New Brunswick rehab center, we provide a highly skilled clinical team that uses a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities to meet your individual needs.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):
CBT has been documented as one of the most researched approaches used in addiction treatment. CBT helps clients identify and modify their distorted thoughts and patterns of negative behavior that lead to substance use. CBT replaces distorted thoughts and negative behaviors with positive and more adaptive responses.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT):
DBT is most effective when working with clients suffering from emotional dysregulation, impulsivity, and self-destructive behaviors. Some of the core skills taught in DBT are mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. These skills can be applied to recovery.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT):
ACT teaches clients to accept their difficult feelings and thoughts rather than fight them, while encouraging them to take action in accordance with their values. The approach allows clients to demonstrate psychological flexibility and encourages sustainable, meaningful change.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR):
EMDR deals with the therapeutic addressing of traumatic incidents that are often the basis for an individual's substance use. This treatment is particularly valuable to clients who have a diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or a history of trauma.
Mindfulness-Based Practices:
Mindfulness teaches clients to observe their thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations without judgment, building the self-awareness and present-moment focus that are essential to long-term recovery.
Family Program:
Addiction does not impact just the person suffering from addiction; it impacts the entire family system. Our family program offers education, therapeutic support, and communication techniques for family and friends to utilize as they learn to support their loved ones through their recovery process.
Seeking Safety:
Seeking Safety is a present-focused, evidence-based therapy that was designed to assist individuals dealing with both co-occurring trauma and addiction; it stresses developing a sense of safety, developing coping skills, and practicing self-compassion.
Nutrition and Wellness:
Physical restoration is one of the foundations of recovery. Our nutrition and wellness programming addresses the body's healing process, helping clients rebuild their physical health through proper nutrition, movement, and self-care practices.
Adventure Therapy:
Adventure Therapy uses experiential, guided activities to help clients develop confidence, resilience, trust, and teamwork skills. Overcoming real-world challenges helps clients gain insights and skills that they can use in their recovery journey.
SMART Recovery:
SMART Recovery (Self-Management and Recovery Training) is a science-based alternative to (or complement to) 12-step programs; the SMART approach emphasizes clients taking an active role in their own recovery by using self-directed change strategies and finding peer support.
SuperHealth:
SuperHealth is an integrated, wellness-based program that utilizes nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle practices to promote the body's natural healing process during and after addiction recovery.
